DIRECTIONS
STEP 1: SEASON TRI-TIP
Liberally season tri-tip with salt, pepper, and garlic powder
STEP 2: GRILL
Grill tri-tip over medium heat.
For medium-rare, cook to an internal temperature of 120°F
Move the tri-tip to high heat and sear on both sides for 1-2 minutes each until the internal temperature reaches 125-130°F.
Remove from the grill and tent with foil for a 10-minute rest.
STEP 3: CARAMELIZE ONIONS
While the tri-tip cooks, slice onion into thin slices
Cook on medium-low heat in a deep pan for 45 minutes with olive oil, butter, and salt to taste.
Stir occasionally to ensure they don't burn.
If sticking occurs, splash small amounts of water in the pan to deglaze.
STEP 4: CHOP TRI-TIP
Chop the cooked tri-tip into 1/2-inch chunks.
STEP 5: PRE-HEAT OVEN
Pre-heat oven to 350°F
STEP 6: BUTTER
Chop the parsley and add the melted butter and garlic to a small bowl.
Mix and set aside.
STEP 7: BUILD SLIDERS
On the bottom half of the Hawaiian rolls, add a layer of pepper jack cheese, tri-tip, caramelized onions, BBQ sauce, dill pickles, another layer of pepper jack cheese, and add the top layer of the rolls.
Brush the tops of the buns with garlic butter.
STEP 8: BAKE
Bake the sliders in the oven at 350°F for 10-15 minutes until the cheese melts and the tops are golden brown.
